FAQs

  • Does The Grass Gurus offer lawn mowing services?
We're sorry, but we don't provide lawn cutting, leaf removal, blowing, weeding/edging, or trimming services. However, we're here to assist you with any other inquiries you may have!
  • How often do you guys come out?
We come out eight times a year. Our applications are about every 5-8 weeks apart from each other.
  • Are your applications safe around my dog / baby?
All the products we use are registered with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). We kindly request that you avoid walking on the lawn after a liquid application to give it enough time to dry. Normally, it only takes about an hour or two (or even just a few minutes during summer). Our main intention behind this request is to prevent any chances of the product being carried inside and causing stains on your floors, carpets, and other surfaces. Thank you for understanding!
  • How soon after the application can I mow my grass?
It depends on the type of application you used - liquid or dry - and whether you bag or mulch the clippings. If you choose not to bag the clippings, feel free to mow your lawn right after the application. The idea behind this is that any fertilizer collected by the mower will be given back to the soil, benefiting your lawn. On the other hand, if you prefer to bag the clippings, it's recommended to water your lawn before mowing. This applies to both liquid or dry applications. The watering will help activate or release the products into the soil, so you won't be removing anything essential.
  • Do I need to water in this application?
If dry fertilizer has been applied, there's no rush to water it right away. You can conveniently wait for the next rainfall. But don't worry, the slow-release nature of the fertilizer means it won't damage your beautiful lawn. On the other hand, if you've used liquid pre-emergent, we do suggest watering it in. If possible, turn your irrigation system on to ensure a thorough soaking. Otherwise, you can simply rely on the upcoming rain to take care of it. Keep your lawn healthy and thriving!
  • Why was the service technician only here for 10 minutes?
The size of a typical lawn is around 6,000 square feet. Our skilled technicians are well-trained to ensure they apply the right amount of product at a suitable pace while using a spreader for dry applications or spray for liquid applications. Servicing an average-sized lawn should only take our technicians a few minutes. They are efficient and experienced in providing timely service to meet your lawn care needs. Our spreaders and spray equipment are professionally calibrated before each use to ensure proper coverage and optimal results for your lawn. Should there be any missed areas, it will become evident through either lack of color or presence of weeds. However, there's no need to worry. If you notice any issues, especially with active weed growth, please give the application 10-14 days to take effect and let us know if the weeds are not browning. We will be more than happy to safely retreat your lawn after that time if necessary.
  • When will my weeds start dying?
There are various factors that contribute to when your weeds will start to die. If you haven't received our pre-emergent applications, which effectively prevent crabgrass and other grassy weeds, you might have some weeds popping up. Our service works best when you receive the applications promptly and consistently. Please note that it takes multiple applications to see the desired effects, and you'll enjoy the full benefits after about a year. It may take a little while to achieve the exact results you're aiming for, but rest assured, we're working diligently to speed up the process. We're here to help and offer service calls in between treatments if it's not time for your next one yet. Keep smiling!
  • Why am I still dealing with Nutsedge?
Nutsedge can be quite challenging to manage, but don't worry! Unfortunately, there isn't a pre-emergent solution available to stop it from resurfacing. However, if you spot any nutsedge, just give us a heads-up and we'll take care of it for you.
  • How do I get rid of moss?
Typically, moss grows in specific environmental conditions. If an area is shady, holds water, or is compacted, moss might appear. But, adding more lime won't really help control moss, even though it prefers acidic soil. To tackle soil compaction, we suggest core aeration as it improves air flow and water absorption. The quickest solution is to rake up the mossy spots and work on enhancing shade and water conditions.
  • How do I get rid of mushrooms?
Mushrooms are a good sign – they indicate that organic matter is decomposing below the soil's surface. The best part is, they won't harm your lovely lawn! If you spot any mushrooms, don't worry. Simply give them a gentle kick or mow over them, and they'll be taken care of with ease. So, no need to stress about these little fungi popping up—they're just nature's way of saying all is well!
  • What are the brown circles in my yard?
What season is it currently? For Bermuda and Zoysia grasses - If it's early spring, it could be Spring Dead Spot. If it's during spring or summer, it might be Dollar Spot. For Fescue grasses - If it's summer, there's a chance it could be Brown Patch. We'd be happy to send someone over to evaluate the circular patches in your lawn and determine the underlying problem.
